St Paul’s Chambers Inquests & Inquiries team has extensive experience in Inquests and Coronial Law.  

Our barristers offer comprehensive support, guiding you from initial contact with the coroner through disclosure, pre-inquest reviews, and final hearings.  All members of our inquest team have experience in dealing with complex and lengthy Article 2 ECHR inquests involving the representation of professionals, including General Practitioners and Police Officers as well as families of the deceased.

Expertise in Inquests and Coronial Law

The team comprises of five excellent silks, including  Sam Green KC, who was instructed for the Police Federation of England and Wales in the inquests arising from the Hillsborough Football Stadium DisasterSam Green KC is also a member of the Government Legal Department Regional Panel of Silks.

The team also includes brilliant juniors at a variety of levels, including Sophie Mitchell, Kristina Goodwin, Matthew Baron who are members of the Attorney General’s Regional B and C Panels of Junior Counsel to the Crown, respectively. Panel Counsel conduct Article 2 inquest hearings on behalf of government health institutions and His Majesty’s Prison Service.

Inquiries

Simon Myerson KC represented the Police Federation at the Soham Inquiry.  In 2012 and 2013 Sam Green KC represented Doctors in the Inquiry into Hyponatraemia-Related Deaths in Northern Ireland.

  • Savile Inquiry
  • Private inquiry into an incident at West Yorkshire probation.
  • Consideration of Inquiry material from the Hillsborough Inquiry that led to the Hillsborough Prosecutions.
  • Post Office Inquiry for the CPS –  Tom Cowan. Monitoring the inquiry proceedings, noting evidence, and presenting key points to . This work was passed onto the MET police as part of their investigation into the scandal. Weekly meetings with the MET to discuss the inquiry evidence and also provide prosecution strategy advice as the investigation developed.
