St Pauls Chambers has a strong reputation in financial matters, including in both civil and criminal cases. Our core strength is our depth of knowledge across Financial Regulation and Financial Crime.

Members of the Financial Mis-selling team comprise Silks and Juniors who have represented parties in mortgage mis-selling, investment mis-selling, pension mis-selling and Interest Rate Hedging Product (IRHP) mis-selling. We have successfully advised on the guidance the FCA has implemented on redress for unsuitable defined benefit (DB) pension transfers.

We have particular knowledge of the Financial Conduct Authority Handbook and a strong reputation for representing banks, lenders and brokers in defended Plevin Claims.

Our barristers are regularly instructed by solicitors acting for high profile banks to defend claims made by claimants following the decision in Plevin. As well as attention to detail, we understand the importance of a close working relationship with instructing solicitors to the successful outcome of a case, not only in respect of attending hearings but also in drafting documents such as skeleton arguments.

We also recognise the impact of continuity of representation and as such our barristers pride themselves in having sole ownership of cases from first instruction to conclusion.

By following this approach, we have successfully defended a large proportion of the claims made against the banks in which we have been instructed. We have also secured a significant number of awards for costs against claimants for unreasonable conduct where the claims have progressed via the small claims track.

Our clerks welcome the opportunity to provide you with further details of the experience of our barristers in representing parties involved in cases concerning the mis-selling of financial products.
