The Jury at Sheffield Crown Court have today heard from Prosecuting Counsel, Denise Breen-Lawton. Denise Breen-Lawton is instructed by the Counter Terrorism Unit to prosecute Mr Neil Sharp on terrorism charges. Sharp is a Yorkshire man, described by Denise Breen-Lawton as a ‘racist, homophobic, neo-Nazi terrorist’ who ‘glorifies and idolises’ Adolf Hitler and who has set up a club, The White Stag Athletics Club, to train like-minded right-wing extremists.
Counsel detailed how the defendant’s publications contain information on how to kill people, use various weapons, build bombs and evade detection by the Police.
The jury were told ‘The defendant hates Jews, hates people of colour, hates homosexuals and believes in the supremacy of the white man’.
Denise Breen-Lawton is an expert on such cases. She is regularly instructed by the Counter Terrorism Unit and was involved in the reported case of Whittle and Sheppard [2009] EWCA Crim 1541. “Where a substantial measure of the alleged activities involved had taken place in England, the English court had jurisdiction to try charges of publishing of racially inflammatory material contrary to s 19(1) of the Public Order Act 1986 even though publication had taken place through a website hosted outside the jurisdiction.”
