Staff Vacancy at St Pauls Chambers

We are looking to recruit a Finance Administrator to join the team at St Pauls. 

Finance Administrator

Full time 09:00 – 17:30 Monday – Friday

Salary negotiable - based on experience

We are a long-established Chambers based in Leeds, specialising in Crime, Regulatory, Family and Civil.  We have 33 full tenants (5 of those are Silks), 6 associate tenants (3 of those are Silks) and generally 1-2 pupils at any given time.

We are looking to recruit a fees clerk who will have overall responsibility for all Chambers’ finance-related tasks.  Training support can be available to develop financial management skills.

Ideally the applicant will have experience as a criminal clerk and have knowledge of running a central fees bank account with reconciliation and spreadsheet work.  Experience in billing process is required with the requisite knowledge of the guidance. The successful candidate will report to the Head of Chambers and the Senior Clerk.  The successful candidate will be responsible for the line-management of the Finance Assistant.


Billing duties:

AGF Billing & CPS Scheme C billing

VHCC Prosecution billing

IFFO Defence billing

Daily bank reconciliation

Payment processing


Aged debt control


Finance Duties:

Month-end invoicing

Rent collection – Direct Debit and Standing Order management

Cash flow management and control

Banking and Petty Cash management

Use SAGE Accounts software to prepare monthly and annual management accounts.

Prepare trial balance for Chambers’ accountant

Assist with quarterly VAT return

Prepare financial reports as required

Assist the finance committee with annual budget

To co-ordinate and administer the insurance policies for Chambers

To ensure Chambers’ compliance with all statutory requirements including Health & Safety, fire safety, security, date protection etc.


What we are looking for:

  • Previous experience of clerking

  • Previous experience as a fees clerk

  • An up to date knowledge of billing guidance

  • Organisational and administrative skills

  • Case management experience

  • Experience with Sage 50 preferred but not essential

  • Good I.T knowledge

  • High degree of accuracy and attention to detail

  • A ‘can-do’ attitude

  • Friendly and approachable manner

  • Proven ability to calculate, post and manage accounting figures and financial records

  • Confidence
