Following on from the other weeks inter-chambers match-up between Mr Philip Standfast and Miss Jessica Heggie. We now have a headline bout as Mr Simon Myerson KC has been instructed to prosecute in a Murder that Mr Bryan Cox KC is instructed to defend. The case has featured extensively in media reports both locally and nationally.
George Hazel-Owram, instructed by Ian Anderson at Ison Harrison solicitors has this week been defending a man at York Crown Court who was charged with Death by Dangerous Driving. After delivering a fantastic closing speech and following a very short deliberation, the jury returned unanimous not guilty verdicts. A great result for George in an extremely tragic and difficult case.
James Bourne-Arton & Kristina Goodwin succeeded in limiting the lengths of the custodial sentences for their clients to as short a term as possible. Both of their clients pleaded guilty to an offence of Affray following drunken late-night violence at Shipley Railway Station. The incident involved a railway conductor and passengers being targeted, bottles being thrown and kicking of the train. You can read about the case here

Philip Standfast has been prosecuting a man this week in Grimsby charged with Rape, Assault and threats to kill. Guilty Verdicts returned and a long spell in custody received.
People of Bradford can sleep a little easier following Kristina Goodwin’s latest case. Acting on behalf of the prosecution and following guilty pleas, she opened the case against a serial burglar who had 47 convictions for 155 offences and when minimum terms were mentioned, the Judge replied “the defendant has had more minimum terms over the years than you’ve had breakfasts,” (he got another minimum term and then a bit more) You can read about the case here
Sophie Mitchell’s Defamation, Harassment and Privacy seminar in conjunction with the Leeds Law Society last week was a massive success with sell-out numbers.
