It has been a while since the last blog. A mixture of a worldwide pandemic, furlough, working from home (pretty hard when you have two children under 6 demanding attention) put paid to having the time to write it.
We therefore have a lot of news to share so instead of publishing it all in one large document, I thought it best to break it down in a more succinct and readable form, with a number of parts over the coming days.
To start then, we have had numerous murders, attempted murders and gross negligence manslaughter cases, both for Queens Counsel and junior Counsel.
• Bryan Cox QC has been instructed to represent one of two twins charged with Murder following a fight between a group of men in the early hours. Mr Cox QC has also been briefed to defend a man charged with Murder following reports of a man being found with stab injuries, this case is to be heard at Sheffield Crown Court.
• John Harrison QC, leading Helen Chapman have both been instructed by the defence to represent a defendant charged with gross negligence manslaughter following a very serious road accident in which two people tragically died on the M62 near Hull.
• Sam Green QC is to prosecute a woman charged with a single count of murder following the death of a man from multiple stab wounds, the case is to be heard at Hull Crown Court.
• Jonathan Sandiford QC is to represent the prosecution in a high profile murder to be heard at Sheffield Crown court. This case hit the national headlines at the start of the first lockdown and is a domestic violence-related incident.
• Nicholas Worsley has been briefed on two separate murder cases, the first is a youth who is one of five defendants all charged with murder and attempted robbery. This case is to be tried at Manchester Crown Court.
• James Lake has been briefed by the prosecution to prosecute a man in Bradford Crown court who has been charged with attempted Murder.
• Helen Chapman has been instructed by John Robinsons Solicitors to defend one of three youths and one adult charged with murder after an incident in Hull.
• Frances Pencheon, briefed by Shazad Dad solicitors in Bradford, is to represent a defendant at Bradford Crown court charged with attempted murder after reports of the victim being found with stab injuries to the body and legs.
• Helen Chapman has been instructed to defend a Man at hull Crown Court charged with attempted murder after a victim had their hand severed completely amongst other injuries.
Over the next few days, I shall be posting more updates of cases, results and other interesting St Pauls Chambers news.
