Marathon Matthew

London Marathon

Marathon MatthewAs most people are aware, on the 28th April it was the London Marathon, and I am pretty sure most people are also aware that I was taking part, based on the amount of emails begging for sponsorship that I have sent round in the last few months.

I can proudly say that I managed to complete the run albeit slower than was hoped, I finished in a time of 4 hours 12 minutes. It seemed that my ankles and knees at 36 are not what they once were. Although I have signed up to next year so we will see if I can beat sub 4 hours then.

The most important thing though to come out of this experience was the amount of money that was raised for the Charity Live Life, Give Life. This was the chosen charity of Jane Jones, the wife of Alun Jones, who tragically passed away last September. So far the total money raised stands at £2870 with more to add on to the just giving page from offline donations. I have been overwhelmed by everyone’s generosity and it was knowing this that provided the inspiration and grit to continue when at 20+ miles all I wanted to do was stop!

So I want to take this moment to thank everybody who donated, be it money or just time listening to me endlessly talking about running (It does become all engrossing). It is your kindness, generosity and patience that got me through 26.2 miles but more importantly it will help benefit an amazing charity. Thank you again.

A lot of people have also asked if I saw the runner who was dressed as big ben during the race. I didn’t, but I did meet him at the pub after, and yes he did beat me, as did the man dressed as a shoe, the man wearing a tent and a giant pineapple!

If anyone would still like to donate, you can. Here is the link:
