CONTACT THE CLERKS
St Pauls Chambers contract law barristers regularly represent clients in all matters of contractual disputes, from smaller-scale disagreements and debt recovery to large scale commercial contract law.
What is Contract Law?
Contract law is a type of civil law which refers to contractual disputes, including:
- Small scale disagreements
- Debt recovery
- Commercial contract law
Our contract law barristers have extensive experience in dealing with issues relating to the construction and formation of contractual terms. This includes misrepresentation, mistakes, damages and the equitable remedies that flow from breaches of contract.
Alongside this, St Pauls Chambers advise on contractual disputes and general common law disputes including consumer credit disputes, product liability and the supply of goods and services.
Commercial Contract Law
Commercial contract law differs from smaller disputes as they are generally drawn up between companies and clients. It provides a framework for commercial contracts, and ensures that such contracts are enforced to become legally binding agreements. The terms and conditions in the commercial contract must be adhered to by the business and consumer or client.
Some examples of commercial contracts include:
- Shareholders agreements
- Non-disclosure agreements
- Business purchase agreement
- Employment contracts
- A franchise agreement
- Sale and distribution agreements
These contracts may be verbal, implied or written contracts, although it is recommended that any commercial contracts be in writing, as this minimises the chances of disputes arising.
If, for example, you have bought faulty goods from a company, commercial contract law entitles you to a refund. In complicated cases, you might wish to seek a lawsuit. Due to the complexities of commercial contract law, we advise that you consult a commercial contract law barrister to advise and support you.
Commercial Contract Law Barristers
Litigation in court should be a last resort. As such, barristers at St Pauls Chambers provide pragmatic, effective and speedy advice to help resolve a client’s contractual dispute.
That said, if it comes to it, Members of St Pauls Chambers have particular expertise in trial work and a great depth of experience in dealing with applications and interim hearing covering a broad spectrum of relief.
Members of Chambers appear at all levels and can be instructed to:
- Provide advice in writing or in conference;
- Draft statements of case;
- Provide representation at negotiations, mediation, interim hearings and trial;
- Provide advice as to the enforceability and construction of contractual terms, no matter the size or scale of the contract.
Hourly rates or fixed fees can often be agreed for many engagements. Contact us today to discuss contract law with a contract law barrister.
