COMMERCIAL LAW EXPERTISE

What is Commercial Law?
The resolution of commercial disputes is a key area of Chambers’ work and expertise. Commercial law disputes can include the following:
- Complaints about a supplier
- A failure to pay invoices properly rendered
- A concern that an employee might be taking commercially sensitive information and supplying it to a competitor or new employer
- An allegation that profit earned from a business relationship is being wrongly diverted away from you or your company.
We understand that when you negotiated your commercial agreement it was in an atmosphere of trust and with the desire to get the paperwork done so you could get on with business. By the time the dispute arises, much of that trust will have dissipated and you will be resentful of the time you have to spend sorting out the dispute.
We are experts in telling you what your obligations are. We will read your documents with speed and accuracy, giving you our opinion as to what they mean to the dispute. We provide practical solutions to the problems that arise and are as well placed to take you through a mediated settlement as we are through a High Court commercial action. Throughout, the focus is on helping you achieve what you want – there is no point in a clever point of law that is irrelevant to the ultimate outcome. Commercial Law at St Pauls Chambers
Because St Pauls Chambers has always embraced a wide variety of work, we have an unrivalled ability to understand how business works. There is no point in advice that you are likely to succeed if the gains are marginal and the on-cost enormous. We are used to examining that crucial question from every angle. We understand how much executive time is demanded by an ongoing civil action, with its need to give accurate and complete disclosure and provide witness statements from key people. We are used to assessing risk and we are used to advising you whether the game is worth the candle. That means you receive commercial advice, aimed at securing the best possible position for you and your business.
We can be instructed directly, using the direct access scheme, ensuring that you only pay for the advice you need, and that the cost is both controllable and that you can decide whether further cost is justifiable before incurring it. If you are interested in instructing counsel, we encourage you to contact our clerking team who will be happy to assist and offer advice; further information concerning particular counsel is of course available on the individual counsel profiles, copies of which may be downloaded.
