HH Roger Scott was a founding member of St Pauls Chambers in the early 1980s. When he died, a trust was provided in his name to help and support those in financial need when they are just starting out in a career at the Bar with St Pauls.
Roger was always ready and willing to help members of Chambers in whatever way he could. He is remembered with fondness, and his family wish to carry on his legacy of support for those starting at St Pauls. His love for and commitment to St Pauls Chambers is a testament to how we have always worked and supported one another.
The Roger Scott St Pauls Trust is a charity established to support pupil barristers at St Pauls Chambers. It aims to relieve the financial hardship of these individuals by providing scholarships supplementing pupillage awards.
It is anticipated that the grants would assist with day-to-day living expenses where appropriate and for one-off items of business-related expenditure, such as computer hardware. This can alleviate financial stress, enabling individuals to maintain their wellbeing and embrace career development.
The criteria applied by the trustees will be individual needs and financial hardship. This means any application should include details of the use to which any grant would be put and the individual circumstances of the applicant.
All applications will, of course, be treated in confidence.
Grants are available to qualifying pupils of St Pauls Chambers. Applications are invited in writing by the trustees on the Pupil Application Form overleaf. The trustees, Simon Bickler KC, Jeremy Barnett, and Danielle Graham, will consider the applications.
The Trustees hope that the award of any grant will enable the applicant to go on and establish a successful career in St Pauls Chambers and that, by helping when times are hard, we will help applicants reach a more stable financial position.
The Trustees would like to think that if those who receive a grant can ever offer the same kind of help themselves, they would remember how the Trust has helped them and feel able to contribute to its fund to allow its work to continue.
We believe financial barriers shouldn’t hinder talented individuals from excelling in their legal expertise at the Bar. Whether you are interested in mini-pupillage, pupillage, or another application, we welcome candidates from diverse backgrounds.
