Practice Overview
Philip is an experienced trial advocate. He is a CPS Panel Advocate at the highest grade and is accredited on the Specialist Rape Panel for the Crown Prosecution Service.Philip is one of very few counsel who is instructed by the CPS to practise over two Circuits, namely the North Eastern Circuit and the Northern Circuit. Philip has carved a reputation in cases of heavyweight crime and matters of serious sexual assault. His insight and experience as a prosecutor means that Philip is a popular choice with defendants who face allegations of Serious Sexual Assault and matters of organised crime.
AREAS OF PRACTICE
Criminal Law
Philip has practised in criminal law for his entire career. He has a wealth of experience in prosecuting and defending trials involving organised crime, fraud and cases of serious sexual assault.
Criminal Law Cases:
R v Spalding – Prosecuted a Murder and attempt murder by masked gunman – Leeds Crown Court
R v Kimmett – Prosecuted a Murder – Leeds Crown Court
R v M – Prosecuted a violent rape of prostitute
R v S – Defended a choirmaster and teacher accused of serious sexual offences against many young boys over many years.
R v O – Defended a Roman Catholic Priest accused of indecency
R v Carolan& Others – Prosecuted a 3 month conspiracy to commit robbery trial and confiscation proceedings.
R v W & W – Prosecuted on a repeated rape of sister by brother.
R v B – Defended a rape and indecent assault by uncle of four nieces.

Traffic Commissioner’s Office
Philip has advised and represented a number of operators called to public inquiry before the Traffic Commissioner for regulatory offences.Licensing Law
