Kristina Goodwin has a busy mixed practice and accepts instructions in a range of criminal, civil and prison matters, as well as inquests.
Kristina is hard – working and meticulous in her preparation; she is recognised for her tenacious approach and naturally builds a positive rapport with both lay and professional clients.
Kristina regularly prosecutes and defends in the Crown Court and is routinely instructed in cases involving sexual offences, dishonesty, drugs offences, proceeds of crime, domestic violence, offences against the person and driving offences. She is adept at dealing with a wide range of expert evidence and has experience of handling both vulnerable witnesses and defendants.
Kristina is a sought-after junior on large and complex cases. She was junior defence counsel to Helen Chapman in an eight-week trial heard at Hull Crown Court involving a defendant charged with multiple counts of rape by six complainants.
Kristina was instructed as junior counsel to Samuel Green KC prosecuting a woman charged with murder; following expert medical evidence a plea to manslaughter on the grounds of diminished responsibility was accepted.
Kristina was junior defence counsel to Jason Pitter KC, acting for the youngest of five defendants charged with murder in a four – week trial at Hull Crown Court.
Kristina also has experience of cases involving fraudulent trading, having been instructed by Trading Standards as junior counsel on a number of operations.
Kristina has considerable experience in a number of areas, including personal injury, credit hire, landlord and tenant and contractual disputes. Kristina routinely appears in the County Court on behalf of both Claimants and Defendants in trials, disposals, applications and CCMC’s. Kristina frequently advises on and drafts pleadings in personal injury and contractual matters.
After University, Kristina worked as a Paralegal specialising in Industrial Disease where she gained extensive knowledge of complex high – value multi-track work for over two years and subsequently as a County Court Advocate, she appeared daily in District Judge’s Chambers on a variety of small claims and applications pertaining to insolvency, consumer credit and mortgage possession.
Kristina represents interested persons in a wide range of matters in both domestic and article 2 inquests. Kristina provides advice and representation from initial contact with the coroner, disclosure, pre – inquest review hearings and final hearings. Kristina thrives in an inquisitorial setting and is pragmatic in her advice.
Kristina appeared in a highly publicised Article Two inquest in Norwich. Kristina was instructed by the family of the deceased, who was struck and killed by the police vehicle responding to the emergency call to locate her.
Causing serious injury by dangerous driving. Acting for the defence, secured a suspended sentence for a defendant convicted of two offences of causing serious injury and damaging four vehicles in the incident.
Robbery. Instructed by the Crown, secured an extended sentence of 18 and a half years for a dangerous offender who robbed an elderly man whilst on life license for murder.
Possession with intent to supply Class A drugs. Acting for the defence, successfully argued against the imposition of a 7 – year minimum term for a third strike defendant charged with the supply of Class A drugs. The court sentenced the defendant to 48 months in custody.
