Call 2023
Henry Fernandez commenced a Common Law Pupillage in September 2023, under the supervision of Angus MacDonald.
Prior to Pupillage and before commencing the BPC, Henry worked for 6 Months as a Full Time Court Clerk, in Leeds Crown Court, from January to August 2022. Not only did he have a front-row seat; Henry also assisted Judges in the smooth running of Crown Court Proceedings. He managed busy and unpredictable lists, acted as a conduit between all parties to a Crown Court hearing, and observed a great range of advocacy styles.
During the BPC, Henry excelled in all his Criminal Skills Assessments. He achieved an Outstanding Grade in both Criminal Advocacy Assessments; 92% in Examination-in-Chief and 90% in Cross-Examination. Henry also achieved an Outstanding Grade of 90% in Criminal Conference. Whilst studying, Henry sought a wide variety of legal experiences. He spent time marshalling a Judge in the First Tier Immigration Tribunal in Bradford, shadowing a Duty Bail Solicitor in Leeds Magistrates’ Court, and observing a Police Misconduct Hearing with West Yorkshire Police, and an Inquest in Wakefield Coroner’s Court. Henry also participated in the University of Law Legal Advice Clinic, where solicitors offer free advice to the public. Taking part in Family and Employment Law Clinics, he interviewed clients about their issues and wrote up solicitor’s advice.
Henry is seeking a Mixed Practice. His main interest is in Criminal Law and during his Pupillage he is hoping to observe Prosecuting and Defending the full spectrum of Criminal Offences. Henry comes from a family with a medical background and is also interested in any areas involving Medical Evidence or testimony from Medical Experts and Practitioners, such as Personal Injury, Clinical Negligence and Inquests.
Chambers is centrally located within walking distance of the train station, secure car parks and the Courts.
