Harry is a Grade 3 Prosecutor and appears on the RASSO Panel. His busy practice in almost entirely dominated by serious Criminal Case work although he Defends and Prosecutes in equal measure.
In the past few years Harry has been developing an ever-expanding practice of Criminal work and is able to prepare and win serious cases with little notice. His ability to process evidence and react exceptionally was shown recently when Harry was given overnight to prepare to Defend a Rape and Sexual Assault case. Despite the tight timetable, the case started at 10am the next day and 4 days later his client was not convicted of any offence.
Harry has a particular expertise in firearms, recently Defending in a 9 week trial where his client faced allegations of Firing a Shotgun with intent to Endanger Life. His client was eventually found Not Guilty of these charges and was sentenced for an offence of Violent Disorder
Harry’s unorthodox route to the Bar led to him obtaining a Degree in Physics during which he carried out a research project with the Ministry of Defence at Porton Down. His scientific experience has proven invaluable in cases involving DNA, Telephone data, gun shot residue and much more.
Harry has proven track record for pulling victory out of the jaws of defeat and spotting evidence that others overlook. Defending a client alleged to have been in the “driving” seat of a car which involved a Police chase ending in a crash. There was only one person in the room who noticed the key point: the car was upside down. The “drivers” seat was on the other side. The client was acquitted.
His Criminal Practice also leads him to representing members of the Armed Forces, both at Court Martial and in Civilian Courts.
Harry has advised Private Companies in respect of Trading Standards Regulations and has repeatedly provided advice to investigating Police Forces on evidential and investigation issues.
Harry is a CPS Grade 3, RASSO Prosecutor but Prosecutes and Defends in equal measure.
His experience is versatile and includes:
Harry was instructed to Defend a driver whose vehicle had hit and killed a 12 year old boy on the M62. At trial he was acquitted of any wrongdoing.
Defending a Female who had distributed sexual images of her Father’s mistress.
R v M
Instructed as a replacement barrister for a teenage female who had already pleaded Guilty to drugs offences. It was obvious however that she had been groomed by an older man who had escaped Justice. After a day of argument her pleas were successfully vacated and the case was dropped.
R v L
Defending a client who had been in a car which had fled from the Police and crashed. Having been pulled from the car he was charged with being the driver. At trial it was only Harry who recognised that whilst his client had been dragged from the ‘driver’s side’, the car was on its roof as this was in fact the passenger side.
R v D
Defending a female client who admitted offences involving sexual intercourse with a 14 year old boy but advanced the basis that it had taken place consensually
R v D
Defending in a case where Harry’s client was charged with attacking his partner with a knife. Through careful and lengthy cross-examination the alleged victim admitted she used to self-harm when she argued with Harry’s client. He was acquitted.
R v S
Prosecuting a grandfather for possession of indecent images of children. Through use of the download of the defendant’s computer Harry was able to prove that the Defendant had downloaded the videos twice, the second time to choose what name under which to save the material.
R v R
a client charged in respect of a fraud indictment in excess of £1 million. He was given a suspended sentence after an aborted trial.
