WE REMAIN STEADFAST

St Pauls remains steadfast in its protest against the 30% fee cuts in complex criminal trials.  We will not accept cases that have been the subject of the 30% fee cuts nor will we accept a graduated fee alternative.

The Legal Aid Agency are seeking to encourage the smooth running of the complex trials that have been subject to a 30% fee cut by the MoJ by offering graduated fee 'relaxed' parameters. The goal posts have widened to allow more billable potential for advocates to claim. It is interesting to note the fees that could be calculated under this method differ very little to the reduced VHCC fees that could be claimed if counsel were to accept the 30% cuts. St Pauls Chambers does not believe that this properly describes an 'alternative' and therefore will not be accepting VHCC on this basis.
