The North East Property 'buy to let' fraud

St Pauls Chambers, John Harrison has been briefed to represent one of the accused in one of the largest mortgage frauds in the past 20 years. 

John Harrison is part of a growing legal team secured to represent one of the defendants accused of masterminding schemes obtaining approximately two thousand fraudulent mortgages between 2004 and 2008.  The main defendant is alleged to have controlled Newcastle Home Loans, a mortgage provider and North East Property Buyers.

CHARGES have been brought in what could be Britain's biggest property  scandal.

Grace and David PurdieSeven suspects are today facing criminal charges as part of the case  involving North East Property Buyers and Newcastle Home Loans, which affected  hundreds of families on Tyneside.

They include bosses David and Grace Purdie who are accused of conspiracy to  defraud.

The pair, who live in Runnymede Road, Darras Hall, Ponteland, where homes  cost upwards of £1m, have both been charged with defrauding “buy and rent back” property sellers and financial institutions between March 2003 and September  2008.

At a brief hearing before Newcastle magistrates, their case was sent to the  city’s Crown Court.

Hundreds of Tyneside families lost their homes after North East Property Buyers and Newcastle Home Loans became the subject of a major investigation.
