Anne Marie Gregory
Chambers are especially proud of the years of practice that Miss Gregory has devoted to this area of law, her knowledge and expertise is second to none. Anne Marie is noted for her defence of complex RSPCA prosecutions.
Ms Gregory is currently instructed to defend what is believed to one of the largest import and export cases concerning endangered species.
2007: RSPCA v Benton and Benton.
Believed to be the first and a test case brought by the RSPCA in respect of two brothers, the Benton Brothers, allowing their pet Labrador becoming overweight. ‘Rusty’ the Labrador weighed in at 11.5 stone.
This case hit the headlines in 2007 being front page news in The Times newspaper on Saturday 13 January 2007 and headline News on national TV.
Whilst the Benton brothers were convicted of some, not all the charges, Ms Gregory broke all the boundary’s in persuading the court that Rusty should be returned to the Benton brothers and she went even further in managing to negotiate that any special diet Rusty should have would be paid for by the RSPCA.
A remarkable and headline case with a happy ending for Rusty that and but for Ms Gregory’s expert handling of the case could have seen the Benton Brothers going to prison and have serious repercussions for anyone with an overweight animal or and indeed a fat child. Miss Gregory also specialises in children cases and with child obesity being very prevalent in the news at the time could seek the knock on affect to parents allowing their children becoming overweight.
