Hilary Manley in Court of Appeal Success

Hilary Manley successfully persuades the Court of Appeal to quash conviction.

Hilary ManleyThe defendant who had learning difficulties, was accused of historic sexual abuse.  At  trial there had been ten counts on the indictment.  Following Hilary's cross examination, the Crown abandoned all ten counts but were then permitted by the Trial Judge to amend the indictment to add a count.  Objection was made but the Judge refused to discharge the Jury and the Jury convicted the Defendant.  The Court of Appeal took the view the conviction was unsafe and it was quashed.   The Crown applied for a re-trial but the Court of Appeal agreed with Hilary's submisions.
