Banking Fraud

Six defendants have been sentenced for their roles in 3 different conspiracies to defraud, which involved 3 different institutions, the Bradford and Bingley, the Abbey National and Equifax PLC, a credit reference company.

Kirstie Watson prosecuted this banking fraud.  Each of the well organised conspiracies involved an employee of the institution providing co-conspirators with sensitive and confidential information. In the Bradford and Bingley, the conspirators targeted accounts of customers with buy to let mortgages and made fraudulent loan applications in the sum of £478,500. In the Abbey National conspiracy, the conspirators transferred money from the accounts of customers into their own accounts. In the Equifax conspiracy, an employee used the West Yorkshire Police account with a credit reference company to make over 400 unauthorised credit checks.
